Mohamed I ging in Granada wonen en gaf opdracht tot de bouw van het Alhambra. Het Alhambra begon als Ford, vandaar de strategische positie. In 1238 werd het Alhambra ontworpen en het zou bestaan uit 6 paleizen, 2 torens en verschillende badhuizen. Het eerste paleis, het Alcazaba, werd gebouwd onder het beheer van Mohamed I. Na Mohamed I hebben meerdere vorsten voor de bouw van het Alhambra gezorgd. Het bleef niet alleen bij de gebouwen, maar er kwam ook een prachtige tuin met een irrigatiesysteem. In 1492 werd Granada weer van de katholieken en was Karel V aan de macht. In 1526 liet de kleinzoon van Karel V een paleis bouwen in het midden van het Alhambra, waarvoor een deel afgebroken werd en gelukkig voorkwam zijn vrouw, Isabella van Portugal dat er verdere verwoestingen plaatsvonden aan het Alhambra. Zo kwam het dat we vandaag de dag het Alhambra nog kunnen bekijken en als je in Granada bent dan is dat zeker aan te bevelen. De naam komt van Qasr Alhamr\u00e3 (het rode paleis). Het omvangt een oppervlakte van 140.000\nm2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het\nbestaat uit het Mexuar, dit is het oudste gedeelte van het Alhambra, de\nvroegere ontvangstruimte en ruimte waar belangrijke beslissingen werden\ngenomen. Een grappig feitje: in deze ruimte kwam Columbus later steun en geld\nvragen om op reis te gaan. Het paleis van de sultan is gebouwd om de Patio de\nlos Arrayanes. Het paleis `De Leeuwenhof\u00b4. Er zijn 4 zalen en het verblijf waar\nde harem van de sultan verbleef. Los ba\u00f1os, het Partal met de vijver,\nnatuurlijk het paleis van Karel V, en de wijnpoort. Ook zijn er 8 torens + de 5\ntorens van Juan de Arce. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per jaar wordt het paleis bezocht door 2,4 miljoen mensen. Er worden per tijdslot maar een bepaald aantal mensen toegelaten in de paleizen,\ndus als je eenmaal binnen ben dan kun je niet naar buiten, want dan kom je er\nniet meer in. Het is alle dagen geopend en verder kun je de gebieden gewoon\nvrij bezoeken (natuurlijk wel met ticket). Je kunt ook \u2019s avonds de paleizen\nbezoeken, maar dat is er, buiten de tuinen, verder niks open. Je hebt zeker wel\neen paar uur nodig om alles te bekijken, dus je kan er zeker een dagje uit van\nmaken in combinatie met een bezoekje aan de stad Granada.
