Ook bevindt zich er een vliegveld in de stad, dus de stad is goed bereikbaar! De hogesnelheidstrein heeft ook een station in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clubvillamar.nl\/vakantiehuizen\/spanje\/costa-brava\/girona\">Girona<\/a><\/strong>. Verder heeft de stad een eigen universiteit. De stad ligt dicht bij de zee, dus ook een dagje strand kan ingepland worden bij een bezoek aan Girona. Doordat de stad dicht bij de zee ligt kent de stad een mediterraans klimaat.<\/p>\n<p>De naam komt van Gerunda. Dat is de naam van een citadel die de Romeinen er vroeger gebouwd hebben. Een citadel is een vestingstad die kan functioneren als het in bedwang houden van de bewoners of als toevluchtsoord als de stad gevallen is. Hieruit blijkt dus dat Girona ooit in handen was van de Romeinen. Ook de Visigoten en de Moren hebben er geregeerd. Tot Karel de Grote de stad veroverde in 785.<\/p>\n<p>Een grappig detail, in de 12<sup>e<\/sup> en 13<sup>e<\/sup> eeuw kende de stad een grote bloeiende joodse gemeenschap. Er was zelfs een belangrijke kabbalistische school, op Europees niveau in Girona. Maar hier kwam een einde aan toen de katholieke koningen de joden uitdreven. Vandaag de dag is de wijk 1 van de grootste en mooiste in Europa en een ware toeristische trekpleister!<\/p>\n<p>De stad is omheind door verdedigingsmuren, die zijn gerenoveerd, dus daar kun je op wandelen. Er loopt een prachtig pad langs deze stadsmuren en absoluut een aanrader om hier te wandelen. Je kunt hier genieten van prachtige uitzichten! De Moren gebruikte de kathedraal ooit als moskee, maar toen zij waren verdreven werd de kathedraal helemaal verbouwd. De kathedraal steekt overal bovenuit, vanwege zijn hoge ligging. Deze herinneren de stad aan hun Moorse verleden en de gebouwen zijn een prachtig overblijfsel uit die tijd!<\/p>\n<p>Kenmerkend in Girona zijn de \u201changende\u201d gebouwen. De prachtige fel gekleurde gebouwen \u201changen\u201d als het ware boven het water van de rivier Onyar, die door Girona loopt. Ook de rivier de \u201cTer\u201d loopt door de stad.<\/p>\n<p>Natuurlijk zijn er ook gezellige winkelstraten te vinden in Girona en een plein, waar het vooral \u2019s avonds erg gezellig is. Op dinsdag- en zaterdagochtend is er een markt te vinden aan de oevers van de rivier de Ter. Hier kun je van alles vinden, van kleding tot levensmiddelen en parfum, of sieraden. Erg leuk om eens heen te gaan en de markt ligt in een prachtige omgeving!<\/p>\n<p>Girona is een prachtige oude stad waar je oude invloeden nog terug kunt vinden, en de stad ligt in een prachtige omgeving.
